Mi interpretación del “Impromtu” de Emilio Pujol, el pasado 25 de junio de 2010, en la iglesia Santa María de Cervelló (Barcelona). My performance of “Impromtu” by Emilio Pujol, last June 25, 2010 at the church Santa María de Cervelló. (Barcelona) (Spain).
Los pasados días 6, 7 y 8 de mayo de 2010, tuve el gran honor de ser invitado por la “Associazione Chitarristica Sassarese” para formar parte del jurado del XVI Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Emilio Pujol in Sassari (Italia).
Se presentaron 12 concursantes provenientes de Rusia, Japón, Mexico, Italia, Francia y Finlandia. Last 6, 7 and 8 May 2010, I had the great honor of being invited by the “Associazione Chitarristica Sassarese” to form part of the Jury at the XVI Emilio Pujol Guitar International Competition in Sassari (Italy)
There were 12 contestants from Russia, Japan, Mexico, Italy, France and Finland.

A traves de Michel Cardin, Profesor de Guitarra de la Universidad de Moncton (Canadá), recibo la fantástica noticia de que “Leyenda Irlandesa”, la primera composición original que escribí en el año 2001, será interpretada por la Orquesta de Guitarras de esta Universidad, en un concierto que tendrá lugar el próximo 24 de febrero de 2010 en el Neil-Michaud Hall.
Aquí podemos disfrutar de las fotos de uno de los últimos ensayos. Through Michel Cardin, Professor of Guitar at the University of Moncton (Canada), I have received the fantastic new that “Irish Legend”, the first original composition that I wrote for Ensemble XXI in 2001, will be performed by the University’s Guitar Orchestra, in a concert next February 24th, 2010 in the Neil-Michaud Hall.

Es curioso como el Arte penetra en nosotros en el momento más inesperado.
Ayer por la tarde decidí escuchar el “Concierto de Toronto” del genial Leo Brouwer, es una de mis obras musicales favoritas.
Antes, estaba viendo en la televisión el canal “Natura”, pues bien, me siento en el sofá, pongo la música y me dispongo a apagar la tele y, de repente…¡ocurre!
Empieza a sonar la música de Brouwer, salvaje, llena de energía, de misteriosa magia y en la tele aparecen imágenes de un documental sobre la Isla de Jao, un lugar remoto de increíble belleza.
¡La música parece estar compuesta para ella!
Leopardos, cocodrilos, espesa selva, ríos…la música y las imágenes, dialogan, se mezclan, me inundan y me emocionan.
Todo parece tener sentido: los acentos, la orquestación, la fuerza de la guitarra de John Williams, las armonías….en la televisión un cocodrilo se sumerge en el río, dos guepardos luchan por su territorio, mientras las escalas y arpegios de esta música genial parecen comentar la gran aventura de la Vida, la lucha por la supervivencia, la busqueda constante del Amor.
La semana pasada estuve en el Auditorio de mi ciudad escuchando una muy buena orquesta con un excelente director, estaba incómodo, con gente alrededor, mis piernas encogidas, tuve una sensación claustrofóbica al lado de desconocidos a centímetros de distancia durante dos horas.
Al acabar pensé: “Ha sido un buen concierto” Sólo un buen concierto.
Nada que ver con lo que sucedió ayer.
It’s funny how Art penetrates us in the most unexpected moment.
Yesterday afternoon I decided to hear the “Concierto de Toronto” by the brilliant Leo Brouwer, one of my favorite musical works.
Before, I was seeing on television the “Natura” channel, well, I sit on the sofa, put my music and I am about to turn off the TV and suddenly … it happens!
Starts playing the music of Brouwer, wild, full of energy, magic and mystery, and the TV show images of a documentary about the Jao Island, a remote place of incredible beauty.
The music seems to be composed for it!
Leopards, crocodiles, thick jungle, rivers … the music and imagery, dialogue, mix, fills and thrills me.
Everything seems to make sense: the accents, the orchestration, the strength of the John Williams’ guitar, the harmonies… on TV a crocodile plunges into the river, two cheetahs fight for their territory, while the scales and arpeggios seem to comment the great adventure of Llife, the struggle for survival, the constant search of Love
Last week I was in my city auditorium listening to a very good orchestra with a fine director, I was uncomfortable with people around, my legs cramped, with a claustrophobic feeling next to strangers a few inches of me for two hours.
At the end I thought: “It has been a good concert” Only a good concert.
Nothing to do with what happened yesterday.

Estoy muy contento , he finalizado el último movimiento de mi obra “Postales de verano”, que estoy escribiendo para Ensemble XXI, titulado “Timanfaya”.
Timanfaya es el nombre del Parque Nacional de Lanzarote (Islas Canarias), un paisaje impresionante de volcanes, de lavas rojas y negras que me impresionó profundamente.
Es como estar en otro planeta de una belleza inquietante, la naturaleza se manifiesta de forma salvaje.
En el tema principal he intentado plasmar esa fuerza, esa energía poderosa. La sección central es expresiva y melancólica; la primera vez que visité la isla fue en 1993 en mi luna de miel, posteriormente he tenido la suerte de visitarla con mi familia en varías ocasiones, tengo dulces recuerdos.
En la sección final vuelve a imponerse la fuerza para acabar de una manera brillante este movimiento, y cerrar así los tres momentos musicales de mis veranos que más me han marcado e impresionado: Valle de Salenques, Tolva y Timanfaya.
Tengo previsto publicarla en otoño de 2010, después de grabarla con nuestra orquesta Ensemble XXI.
I’m very happy
I’ve finished the last movement of my work “Summer Postcards”, which I’m writing for Ensemble XXI, entitled” Timanfaya “. Timanfaya is the name of the National Park of Lanzarote (Canary Islands), a stunning landscape of volcanoes, red and black lava, that impressed me deeply. It’s like being on another planet with a disturbing beauty, nature manifests itself in a wild way. In the main theme I’ve tried to capture this force, this powerful energy. The central section is expressive and melancholy, the first time I visited the island was in 1993 on my honeymoon, then I have been fortunate to visit it with my family on several occasions, I have sweet memories. In the final section returns the energy of the earth to end in a brilliant way this movement, and it closes the three summer musical moments that more have marked and impressed me: Valle de Salenques, Tolva and Timanfaya. I plan to publish it in autumn 2010, after record it with our orchestra Ensemble XXI.
El Cuarteto de Guitarras Terpsícore sigue llevando mi obra “El lenguaje de las estrellas” alrededor del mundo.
En este caso, la tocaron en Viena (Austria), en un Concierto organizado por el Instituto Cervantes el pasado 13 de octubre de 2009.

Finalizo esta semana de buenas noticias sobre la interpretación de mi música, con una noticia importante. Tali Roth, prestigiosa profesora de guitarra de The Juilliard School de Nueva York y responsable del Pre-College Ensemble, me ha confirmado que mi música se trabajará en este centro musical, considerado uno de los más prestigiosos del mundo.
En concreto interpretará con sus alumnos “Venus”, 2º movimiento de mi obra para cuarteto de guitarras “El lenguaje de las estrellas”.
El concierto está previsto para el 26 de febrero de 2010 en el Lincoln Center de Nueva York, sede de la Juilliard.

El pasado mes de noviembre, tuve un problema con mis cervicales que me impidió enseñar en el Conservatorio de Monzón, como hago habitualmente.
Fueron semanas tristes, y pensé mucho en mis alumnos que estuvieron sin clase esos días.
Cuando empecé a estar mejor decidí escribir una obra para ellos.
Desde mi clase tengo una vista impresionante del Castillo Templario de Monzón y así nació el título de mi obra: “En mi ventana un castillo”.
Es una pieza dulce y tranquila, para Guitarra sola, de un nivel técnico sencillo.
Puedes escucharla, interpretada por mi, y descargarla gratuitamente en nuestra sección Compositor.
Esta es la número 1, espero próximamente ir escribiendo más obras sencillas como esta para mis alumnos.
Last November, I had a problem with my neck which prevented me teach at the Conservatory of Monzon, as I do normally.
These were sad days, and I thought a lot in my students who were without class.
When I started to be better decided to write a score for them.
In my class I have an impressive view of the Templar Castle of Monzón and this is the reason of the title of my new score: “En mi ventana un castillo” (A Castle in my window)
It’s a sweet and quite piece, for a Solo Guitar, with a simple technical level.

This is the number 1, I hope soon to write more works like this for my students.
“Postales de verano” es el título de la nueva obra que estoy escribiendo para Ensemble XXI.
Acabo de finalizar el primer movimiento que he titulado “Valle de Salenques”.
El “Valle de Salenques” es un lugar mágico y, para mi, uno de los lugares más bellos que he visto en el Pirineo.
Al lado de un bosque frondoso, oscuro, de cuento de hadas, fluye el pequeño río Salenques.
Mi obra también tiene dos partes, una oscura y misteriosa, como el bosque y otra más fluida y rítmica, como el río.
Ya conocéis mi fascinación por el agua, y en especial, por los ríos. Salenques es un río precioso, lleno de “voces”, con saltos entre enormes rocas y de diferentes tonalidades de verdes, azules…no me cansaría nunca de mirarlo.
Tiene un aspecto salvaje, al lado del mágico bosque de hayas, con el suelo tamizado de hojas secas y las enormes piedras de granito llenas de musgo.
Salenques es un lugar que transmite paz, que invita a la reflexión tranquila, sin prisas.
El pasado verano estuvimos allí con Mari y Albert y, en un momento, paso por mi cabeza un pensamiento oscuro: sí, me gustaría que, cuando muera, alguien extienda mis cenizas por el bosque y por el agua del río Salenques, fundirme para siempre con este lugar y formar parte de él.

“Summer Postcards” is the title of the new score I’ve written for Ensemble XXI.
I’ve recently finished the first movement that I titled “Valley of Salenques”.
The “Valley of Salenques” is a magical place and, for me, one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in the Pyrenees.
Next to a lush forest, dark, of a fairy tale, it flows the small river Salenques.
My work also has two parts, one dark and mysterious, like the forest and a more fluid and rhythmic, like the river.
You know yet my fascination with water, especially by rivers. Salenques is a beautiful river, full of “voices”, with jumps between huge rocks and different shades of greens, blues… I never feel tired of look at it.
It has a wild side, next to the magical forest of beech, with the ground sifting of dry leaves and huge granite stones filled with moss.
Salenques is a place that transmits peace, which invites to reflection quietly, unhurried.
Last summer we were there with Mari and Albert and, in a while, it passed through my head a dark thought: yes, I would like that when I die, someone spread my ashes in the forest and the river Salenques, melt forever with this place and be part of it. See more pictures of the “Valley of Salenques”
Siempre es motivo de alegría para un compositor saber que sus obras son interpretadas y que cobran vida en las manos de grandes profesionales, como el dúo que forman Luigi Giffi, guitarra y Stefano Mammarella, flauta.
Han interpretado mi obra “30 de diciembre” en diferentes conciertos en Italia, en la región del Aquila y, en concreto, el próximo mes de noviembre de 2008 van a hacerlo en el Castillo de Vernio (Florencia), en la histórica Sala del Melodramma.
El dúo ha realizado destacados conciertos en Italia y especialmente, para el Rotary Club International, con un destacado éxito de público y de crítica en su última gira por Algería, patrocinada por la Embajada Italiana.
It is always a joy for a composer, to know that their works are interpreted and that come alive in the hands of great professionals, as the duo Luigi Giffi, guitar and Stefano Mammarella, flute.
They have interpreted my score “December the 30th” in different concerts in Italy, in the region of Aquila, in particular the next november, they are going to play it in the Castle of Vernio (Florence) in the historic Sala del Melodramma. The duo has performed outstanding concerts in Italy and especially to the Rotary Club International, with important success of public and very good reviews in their last tour for Algeria, sponsored by the Italian Embassy.
